Leak
The Other Side of the Pipeline
Against the backdrop of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the book sheds light not only on the little-discussed history of Russian colonialism but also on the environmental damage caused by political decisions and wars related to fossil fuels.
The publication takes as its starting point the interdisciplinary research project and exhibition "Leak: The End of the Pipeline" (MdbK Leipzig, 2024). It focuses on the development of the gas pipeline system between Siberia and (West) Germany since the 1970s, the situation of indigenous communities in Russian-occupied territories, anti-colonial activism in Northern Eurasia, and the involvement of (West) German industry in the exploitation of Siberian natural resources.
