Solidaritäten transformieren

Praktiken und Infrastrukturen in der Migrationsgesellschaft

Editors:Transforming Solidarities (Ed.)

Our present is marked by upheavals, crises, and challenges. Pandemics and wars are testing our societies. Climate change and digitalization are fundamentally reshaping the way we live together. The reality of global mobility and a society of migration requires us to rethink democracy and belonging. The global wave of dis-solidarization calls on all of us to reshape our relationships with one another. But what practices and infrastructures are necessary for this in a society of migration? Since 2021, the research project “Transforming Solidarities” has been investigating this question in the fields of work, health, and housing. At the Laboratory of the Society of Migration in Berlin, researchers examined how solidarity can provide the necessary responses to these challenges. And: how these are negotiated, enabled, or prevented. This volume presents the findings of the research project, theoretical reflections on solidarity, forms of disengagement from solidarity, reflections on methodological and solidarity-based practices, investigations of infrastructures of solidarity, and suggestions for developing new solidarity-based practices. Thirty-five concise essays examine solidarity as a transformative force from various perspectives.
