Belgrads radikale Ränder

The Serbian capital, Belgrade, serves as the starting point for a critical urban study that examines counter-hegemonic narratives and realities that are otherwise overlooked in favor of the currently dominant neoliberal consensus. The study investigates various mechanisms for the production of identities through architectural and urban planning measures, which can be observed across all the eras of Belgrade’s planning policy under consideration. In this context, specific locations in Old and New Belgrade that stand out particularly due to their fundamental transformation are referred to as “radical margins”: “radical” because they could serve as starting points for radical-democratic (urban) politics, and “margins” because they are situated on the periphery or outside the city’s hegemonic order and do not (yet) conform to any conception of the neoliberal order.
