The publication features 84 photographs of Federal Highway B-73 from Cuxhaven to Hamburg, a typical access road leading into a major German city. Through his large-format analog photographs, Markus Dorfmüller documents in rich detail the various typologies and spatial arrangements along this road. 
The photographs invite the viewer to linger on individual sections and offer the opportunity to observe objects and constellations that usually elude focused attention in everyday life. The temporal layers along this road are exemplary and can be summarized by architect Thomas Sieverts’ concept of the “Zwischenstadt” (in-between city)—neither city nor rural area, and yet both at the same time.
