While “mapping” is on everyone’s lips, map reading has so far played hardly any role in the critical analysis of urban spaces. Yet the interpretation of maps is also central to all forms of spatial perception. What does it mean to read existing maps collaboratively? How can we use this process to question cartographic discourses and create new meanings? Kathrin Wildner explores the extent to which not only mapmaking but also map reading can be harnessed as a collaborative method for the production of spatial knowledge.
