Falkenhorst
Architektur in Gebrauch | Heft #2
The Falkenhorst playground originated from an initiative by residents of the residential complex of the same name on the outskirts of Cologne. Built between 1968 and 1970, the complex consists of five development units ranging from 7 to 15 stories, with a total of 350 apartments, which were marketed as condominiums by the private developer Joachim Hahlbeck. With a purchase price of about 500 DM per square meter, the prefabricated apartments were particularly attractive to young families, who typically moved from other areas to the growing but still largely village-like district of Porz.
The texts by AG2 are based on conversations with Klaus and Karin Gils and Dieter and Gerlinde Baumgart; they are among the initiators of the playground. Klaus Gils was chairman of the Im Falkenhorst e.V. community association.
