Description

In the late 1990s, even before the Right to the City movement, the “Mission” emerged from a theater project by Christoph Schlingensief in Hamburg. Here, there was “Art and Soup” for everyone—and especially for those who could no longer find a place in the gentrified city center. Initially supported by institutions such as the Schauspielhaus, HfBK, taz, and Pudel, homeless people soon organized themselves, shaped daily life and the program, and set their own rules—until the “Mission” lost its space in 2022.
The book Kunst gegen Kälte (Art Against the Cold) by Anna Ulmer takes readers on a journey through 25 years of the “Mission.”
At the event, participants and supporters will read, share stories, and discuss their experiences. Plus, there’ll be soup for everyone!
